When a building owner invites the public onto his property, he owes a duty of ordinary care for the safety of the people coming onto his property. If he neglects that responsibility then he is subject to liability in a civil court. Sometimes, people who run restaurants or hotels don’t provide adequate security to their customers. The customers can be injured physically, they can be robbed, they can be sexually assaulted. A number of bad things can happen. When property owners don’t attend to their legal responsibility to exercise ordinary care for the patrons of the business.
